Time capsule

In the time capsule I would put…

Baby doll
I got a baby doll when I was around 4-5 and when you’re a kid you play with your toys constantly, and this toy was a big part of my childhood. Today, not many kids even play with toys, especially baby dolls, so adding this to the time capsule would be interesting for children to see what someone their age played with as a child.

A picture of the landscape from where I live
Having a picture of what everything looks like from where I live could be interesting because forests could become sparse and houses or yards will most likely be completely different in the future.

A record player w/ record
Putting a record in the time capsule would be interesting because records are already going out of style and have been for a while after iPod’s, CD’s and other ways of listening to music have been invented, and in the future, those things will most likely be a rarely used item.

Music from 2012 on a usb and some of my favourite music
I would put music in because music changes a lot over time and having people compare the music from 2012 to music of 2112 because they might not know of some artists that were out in 2012.

Pictures on the usb
I would have pictures on the usb as well so they could see what my family, friends and I looked like, because fashion and styles will definitely change in 100 years.

Hello people of 2112! My name is Kelsey, and I am 15 years old in the year 2012. I live with my mother and 2 cats in a small house.

I bet things in 2112 are completely different then how they are in 2012. Your music, education, fashion, and basically everything will have some sort of change compared to my time. Music will probably be so different since the artists I have in my time passed away by now, but genre’s will most likely be similar and you will have many more! My favourite genre is indie or alternative. I’m sure that the technology is highly advanced compared to our newly used touch screen products. I want you to spend as much time as you can with family or friends and not rely completely on technology. Landscape also must have changed greatly over time and hopefully is being taken care of, and if not you, please start because having my relatives and yours being healthy and alive is important. Continue t be kind to everyone and greet everyone nicely like we do today, and enjoy life to the fullest!

Good luck, sincerely Kelsey Keenan.

The neighborhood

Little Jonah never went outside before. His parents were always afraid if he went out into the world he would get hurt, so he spent his days inside, looking out the window, wondering when the day would come that he could leave his house and be able to do something outside. A day like any other, Jonah woke up, in his room filled with toys that were now boring to him. It was filled with lots of new toys that were what every kid dreamed of, but those toys weren’t as fulfilling as going outside and playing with friends. This day wasn’t just like any other; his parents were going away on a trip and trusted his grandparents to take care of him. His grandparents bickered about everything so when he woke up, decided that this was the day he would get outside and live his life.

Once he finished his breakfast, he grabbed some cookies and a few juice boxes, put them in his lunchbox and walked out to the front door without being noticed. His grandparents were too busy fighting about the way eggs were cooked to notice him. Jonah was sort of afraid to open the door, after all, there had to be a reason that his parents didn’t want him going outside. Jonah shook his head and realized that he had to do this; just going out for a day wouldn’t hurt anyways. He slowly turned the doorknob a bit, and peeked behind him to see if they were looking. He cracked the door open a little, and slipped outdoors and kept his eyes shut. As he closed the door, he slowly turned around and opened his eyes. He couldn’t believe how beautiful it was outside, and the feeling of fresh air hitting his skin was wonderful.
The first thing he saw was a wagon from a local child, but no one was around, so he grabbed it, and sat his lunch box in it. He looked around, wondering where to go first, and began hauling his new little red wagon until he got to a little teepee that was set up and had strange sounds coming from it. He slowly stepped inside to see a man dressed in odd clothes beating on a drum and making weird noises and had paint all over his face. Jonah stared blankly at him and the man soon looked up, startled and said “Small child why are in my peaceful place of home.” Jonah still dumbfounded replied with “I-I don’t know...” The strange man could tell Jonah did not understand what he was doing and began to feel bad for him “Would you like to learn how to make wonderful music like I make?” Jonah’s face calmed a bit and he nodded. The man was kind and offered to let Jonah keep on his drum as long as he promised to continue playing and teach others, so Jonah agreed and went on his way. He began walking down the sidewalk until he got to what was considered his neighbors.

When Jonah looked outside he always noticed a little girl that was next door who often had friends over and played in her front yard. Seeing this always made Jonah sad and now was the chance to finally meet her. Jonah slowly made his way up the steps leading to the yellow house and stared at the door. He made a little knock, but knew he didn’t make enough noise for anyone inside to hear. He knocked again, and waited a few seconds then began to hear faint footsteps becoming louder until the door finally opened up. A women, most likely the mother, looked down at him, turned around and yelled out to her daughter that one of her friends were here to play. The little girl came down slowly, knowing she had no plans to play with someone today, and went over to the door. “Who are you?” she said staring at Jonah, a boy she had never seen before. “I’m… Jonah, your neighbor.”, he replied. The girl looked at him and said “So you are the boy who always stays up in his room looking out the window, I’m Tabby, what is your name?” Jonah replied by telling his name, and she then invited him in for tea. Jonah knew it was getting at least three o’clock and he needed to come home soon because he grandparents could already be worried sick. “I’m sorry, but I can’t I need to go home soon, but I will come over again and we can play.” Tabby frowned a bit, and said it was fine and said goodbye to her new friend.

Jonah knew he had to get home, but noticed a beautiful forest beside Tabby’s house, and decided to venture and see it, since he did not see live nature before.
When he got into the forest it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He sat for awhile, and just took in everything that he missed out on. Going home would be awful, and he knew he would miss seeing all of this, so he decided that when his parents got home, he had to make things change. He noticed it was beginning to get dark, and he had to get home before anyone noticed he was gone.

Jonah left the forest and hurried back home. First, he peeked in the window, seeing if his grandparents were around. He could see them in the kitchen once again, sitting at the table, having some tea, but soon both of their hands flew up in the air and they began to bicker once again. He slipped into the door and slowly ran upstairs to his room and sat on his bed. Jonah was so played out from his adventure today, but knew it had to be done again. Soon his eyes were open again and it was daylight. He could hear his parents downstairs talking to his grandparents about their trip. He started downstairs to finally tell his parents how he felt and what he had done, and hoped more than anything that they would understand and would allow him to go out. He walked up to his parents who were glad to see him, and asked them to sit down. They began to look worried and slowly sat down. He explained to them how he felt and that he had secretly left as they were gone. Surprisingly his parents were perfectly fine with him going outside and only made him stay inside so he could learn the real meaning of life and take everything into consideration.

Top 5 television shows of my choice

Doctor who – 1
1 girl 5 gays - 2
American Horror story - 3
South park - 4
New girl - 5

Since I watch a wide variety of television shows, I chose the top 5 that I am watching at the moment. From these 5 shows, I basically went from least to greatest, which is what shows I’m excited to come out for me to watch during the week.

New girl – Number 5
Who’s that girl is about a girl name Jess, an offbeat young teacher who deals with a bad break up, and finds an apartment to move into with three single men. Although she is very odd to them, they create a close bond, in which they look out for each other. This show is at the bottom of my choices, but still outweighs many shows that I watch. The reason I chose this show for the least favorite is because the first season was very funny and interesting but I find the new season to be sort of repetitive and not as funny or interesting as the first season.

South park – Number 4
South park is an animated television show about four irreverent grade schoolers, in the town of South park, Colorado. The boys run into many funny and weird situations. This show is definitely 13+, and has a lot of sexual and violent humor. I enjoy watching this, even though sometimes it’s not as humorous at times. It’s nice to watch this to get a good laugh at times, and I think the stories they make for episodes are very comical and different, and not something people would really hear every day.

American Horror Story – Number 3
American Horror Story follows the Harmon family. Ben, Vivien, and their daugther Violet move from Boston to L.A after Vivien gives birth to a still born child, and also because Ben had a affair with one of his students named Hayden. They learn about the many deaths and murders that has happened inside the house, and get a visit from each ghost. This is a very interesting television show to me, you don’t see many ‘scary’ shows today. The story is great and it always keeps you on edge so its clear why its number 3, and not on the lower end of my top 5.

1 girl 5 gays – Number 2
1 girl 5 gays is for sure my second favorite of out my choices. It is a talk show that has 5 homosexual guys and sometimes girls who speak with Aliya Jasmine and discuss a wide variety of questions, 20 questions in each episode. This show is definitely not for children because a lot of sexual topics come up in these questions. I really enjoy this show because it shows the gay pride that Toronto has and also opens you up to what people have went through. It can be funny, sad or interesting, and there sometimes is even drama between cast members.

Doctor Who – Number 1
There was no competing for this category, Doctor Who was for sure number one. You cannot, not fall in love with The Doctor, who is a Timelord and can go to any time in the past or future. This show can be funny, qwerky, sad and will usually always keep you on edge because you easily fall in love with the characters. The Doctor regenerates in every couple seasons so he is the same person on the inside, but his appearance changes, which spices up the story. He always has people who come along with him through time. Together they change situations that could go bad.

Movie Review: Finding Forrester

The film Finding Forrester, directed by Gus Van Sant, and written by Mike Rich, is produced by Columbia Pictures Corporation in 2000. The story is about a 16 year old African American boy named Jamal (Rob Brown) who decides to try and impress his troublesome friends, by breaking into an old famous writer’s apartment named Forrester (Sean Connery). Forrester never left his apartment, and kept himself locked up, but when Jamal leaves his backpack in the apartment a new friendship happens. When he finally goes back to get it, he sees that Forrester has marked all of his work. Together they form a great bond, helping each other out, but Forrester wants to keep one secret, no one can know he is helping him. The secret ends up causing trouble for Jamal when his professors believe he is copying Forrester because of the title of his writing piece. Forrester changes Jamal’s life, and Jamal also makes a big impact on Forrester’s. The overall story for this movie is very touching and interesting. The given situation is something different and keeps you wanting to know more and makes you really care for the characters. The music in this movie makes a big impact on the feelings and the situations given. Since the music is instrumental it gives more feeling. I believe the theme is “When helping out friends, you must stay true to your word, but only if it is the best benefit for you and your friend; because that is what a true friends does.”

Writing Inventory

I don't ever write on my spare time, even though I do enjoy writing. I like writing scary or fantasy type stories, they seem to be easiest for me. Since I don't write, usually in my spare time I am watching movies and televison shows. I don't exactly have many favourite writers, because I don't read very much, but when I do, I like stories that have mystery or drama, or some sort of scariness to them. My ideas for stories come from movies and shows that I have watched, and just twisting and turning them into my own ideas. The writing that I've been proud of so far is the one I did for writing class, but I do feel I could have done better at the ending. Usually I only produce one draft copy, but edit it very much, and change things around. People have told me that I am good at being creative, so I guess that is my strength in writing. My weakness in writing would be my word choice, I'd like to start using better and stronger words, rather than the same ones over and over again. My favourite subject for writing would have to be a scary situation or weird, something that makes people want to keep reading and find out what happens. My goals are to write more because I actually really enjoy doing it and I think it could be a really good pastime for me.

Screams

When growing up, I did not believe in evil, or anything non-human. I was never afraid of things as easy as others, nothing ever got to me. I always believed that Halloween was the most obscene holiday of all, why? There cannot be evil lurking around, waiting for you, or so I thought. I keep to myself a lot, I always have. It’s nice to be by yourself, doing the things you want, not having to hear about other peoples problems, or issues. I often travel, I run a blog about visiting un-mapped places. Those places are a great place to get away, be by your lonesome. My blog isn’t well known, famous, only a few people go on it, of course they are the people who like to be alone, like me, but these or people are socially deprived and don't have the guts or the permission from their parents to leave the basement and venture out to the real world to explore. I was working hard one night, getting weary of trying to search for unmapped places, because afterall, they are unmapped. It was about 3:45 am, I've had at least 4 cups of coffee, and thats when I came across this place. It wasn’t like every other unvisited place, this place was beautiful. The picture showed green scenery exploding around a medium sized, hand-crafted wooden resort. Most resorts were broken-down, rain-ruined, slack and have the kind of front desk assistants that you feel like are watching your every move when you are there. I needed to go to this place, something was calling me here, it was too mesmerizing to pass up. I jotted down the address, grabbed my already packed suitcase with all my clothes from the trip before-hand, and grabbed my keys. This place, like the others was in the middle of nowhere, rarely ever seen, but why would something so beautiful be hidden? For how long has it been? I was about to find out. I was about 2 and a half hours driving, when I came to a sign that read "Quick Valley Resort" which was followed by a what seemed to be long road. It took a 10 minute drive straight and there was a sharp turn, pulling me up to the resort. It was just as marvelous as the picture, as if it was untouched, exactly what the photograph showed, barely a leaf fell off a tree. There was about 5 parking spaces, all unfilled, until I came along. I got out, grabbing my suitcase and dragged it along with me. I wanted to know what this place offered, it gave it a great feeling, a less empty feeling, not that I felt empty from being alone all the time, but this felt like I wasn't alone, and I liked it. The air was fresh, and clean, as I stumbled up to the front door, no one seemed to be around. I proceeded to go in. The fresh air followed me inside, to odd brown tinted brick walls, and a common wooden desk, with a lamp, and a rack of key's and numbers behind it. Small decorations were placed throughout the room, followed by large wooden stairs, leading to the rooms. Nothing seemed out of place, everything spotless, and perfect. I went up to the desk, setting down my worn-out suitcase, and knocked on the desk. I continued to examine all the perfectness I was in. I quickly turned back around, seeing a young women, only in her 20's, with a knit pink shirt on, which brought out her baby blue eyes, and brown hair. Her features were perfect, and small freckles fell across the top of her nose. She smiled at me gently, not surprised there was someone there. "Welcome to Quick Valley Resort, would you like to make a reservation?" she said with a small, kind voice. "Yes, thank you." I replied. I wrote down my name in the book, and she turned to grab a room key. I had gotten room three. "Room 3 is one of our better rooms, you are lucky to have it." the young lady whispered. I smiled, and said, "Do you get many guests here?". "Well, that depends on what you mean by many" she replied, finding the question comical. I smiled again, and picked up my suitcase. "Oh! Let me get that for you sir." she said as she rushed to pick it up. I figured the suitcase was bigger than her. "You really don’t need too.." I replied, but she insisted. We walked up the wooden stairs, barely a creek as we stepped upon each step. She guided me to room three, and I unlocked the door for her in a hurry, feeling sorry for her carrying my suitcase. When I stepped into my room, it was crisp and clean, it had off-white blue walls, with wooden casing around the edges, a queen bed, with floral sheets, and two night tables on each side. To the left there was a door to a washroom, and beside the door. The room also of course had a old wooden dresser, and a small area to sit. There was 2 windows, showing you out to the backyard, which happen to have a small garden, and a pathway leading through the thick green trees. "What is through those trees?" I asked, I was very curious. "Oh, you will see tonight" the girl replied with enthusiasm. She then left, and I got comfortable in my room. I went to the bathroom, looked in the mirror, to see how worn-out and tired I looked, forgetting I still had no sleep and was running on 4 cups of pure caffeine. I jumped into the shower, pondering on what would be happening tonight, and what I would be seeing through that path. When I was finished in the shower, I walked back out to my room, noticing the note lying on my bed, it read; "At 7:30 sharp, please meet me out at the garden, as I will be showing you a wonderful act by some kids by the nearby town that happens only on odd nights, it is something very wonderful to see, you will not want to miss it, sincerely, Alice." I checked to see the time, it only being 2:36 pm, I decided to reward myself with a nap, seeing as I was completely played out. When I woke up, it was already 7pm, and I needed to get ready. I was unsure of what to wear, so I hauled on some normal jeans and a button up shirt, hauled on my shoes, and brushed my bed hair down. I ventured out to the garden, no one was around. I wanted to peek so bad and go down that path already, I could not wait any longer. Just then Alice, the lady from the front desk came out from the path, and signaled me to come with her. It was then getting dark, and she tugged on my shirt, guiding me down the path. "Close your eyes" she said in a soft voice. So I did. A few seconds later she said "Now open them." When I opened my eyes, there was a large stage set up, nothing special, it had chairs setting in front of it, for an audience, and onstage there was some stairs for people to be standing on. Alice took me to set down, and told me she would be right back, the show was starting soon. I looked around, trying to notice anything about what I would be seeing. The curtains then closed, and a slow melody began to play. I peered at the curtains, and they began to open. Rows of children, dressed in what seemed to be black pajamas, stood still, barely blinking, and then walked out, another kid, but with a skeleton costume on. I thought it was sweet some young kids, wanting to show their talent for people, but the skeleton costume sort of caught me off guard. The music began to get heavier and more serious, and the kids began to start singing a melody. All eyes on me, I could not break my stare from them, as they could not from me. The song seem to be going right through me, and I was not even there, I was just some thin air. The music, even louder, began to get more serious, and more strong, and the kids began to sing louder, and break into a roar. I still could not break my stare, and I could not move. Each child, staring deep into my soul, seeming to drain out everything in me. The music was not uncontrollably loud, and the children were now humming. They were like nothing I've ever seen, as if they were not real, or un-human. Their eyes began to almost light up, still not breaking their stare, when all of a sudden, a deadly scream, from each small mouth, came piercing my ears, and that is all I can remember. After that, I woke up in my car, setting outside the road in front of the "Quick Valley Resort" sign. I had a feeling inside which I could not describe, I don’t know how to begin to explain. It was uneasy and unsettling, and I feel like I needed to leave. I backed up my car and headed home. Had I fallen asleep? Did I dream all of that, and not even go to that resort? I looked in the passenger seat, not to find my suitcase, but a postcard from the resort, on the back, in red ink it said "Finally you learn, to believe in the things others do, but only after having them harm your soul." I was white as a ghost, I could feel it on my skin. I looked back at the road, and drove straight home. After that, I never will think twice about believing in something that is un-human or something that seems unreal to me, because I have seen evil, with my own eyes.
